Chao- While taking a few English classes over the past few semesters in college, a couple of teachers had offered some very good tips on actual writing, whether for short fiction or academic papers. Most of us understand that for any proper English sentence, it needs a subject and a verb. There are different ways to write out what we want each sentence in each story to say.
Example 1: Yugi walked into his bedroom, carrying his heavy backpack. He placed it on his desk and sat down. He was happy to be done with school as he flipped through his pack of Duel Monster cards and talked with his friend.
Example 2: Carrying his heavy backpack, Yugi walked into his bedroom. He placed it on his desk and sat down. Flipping through his pack of Duel Monster cards and talking with his friend, he was happy to be done with school.
Chao- So what’s the same thing within in these two?
YChao- They were written by a lazy author
Chao- ………
YChao- They both lack Yugi torture.
Chao- ……….
YChao- Fine. They’re both about Yugi.
Chao- And what’s the difference between the two examples?
YChao- I pretty much got the same, boring content out of it.
Chao- It’s all about suspense!
YChao- I don’t get it…
Chao- Yes, both are about Yugi and what’s he doing. The first exampled has the subject first followed by the verb in all three sentences. Chao had turned in a paper like this for a review, and the teacher had said it gets boring reading the same pattern over and over again. She suggested switching things around, as can be seen in Example 2.
YChao- Write a better example!
Chao- Ok, fine.
Example 3: Yugi ran down an isolated ally, fearing for his life. He passed by empty boxes and dirty puddles. He hoped he could be reunited with Yami as his heart pumped with great anxiety. He had to get away from Bakura first.
Example 4: Yugi ran down an isolated ally, fearing for his life. Passing by empty boxes and dirty puddles, he had to get away from Bakura first. He hoped he could be reunited with Yami as his heart pumped with great anxiety.
Chao- Better?
YChao- I guess. Could you write Yugi getting beaten up or something?
Chao- …Anyway, it’s good for writers to find ways to write in new styles. Readers may not know exactly how you made something so interesting, but it’s good to have different patterns, even if it’s just for something as simple as switching around subjects and verb spots. This is what’s called suspense; it’s created very easily just by positioning the subjects and verbs. They can be simple like in these examples, or very long like done in some Edgar Allen Poe works. (He’s the one who wrote The Raven, yes?) It just depends on what you, the writer, like. (Unless it’s an academic paper, in which case you’re better off writing just what the teacher wants to hear.)
YChao- You also had four sentences in Example 3 while Example 4 had three.
Chao- That’s called Revision, and there’ll be an entry for that topic another time. Chao will just be giving some advice as these classes go on.
YChao- They better have Yugi torture! It’ll be a surefire way for readers and writers to understand what the heck you’re talking about!
Chao- Hope this helped!

Darn You, Commas!
Chao- With school coming up, and maybe some have already started, we all have different papers and fan fics to be writing. Chao would just like to share one page from a really good writing resource's page that Chao was introduced to as a freshman in college.
Really good webiste link: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/607/02/
Chao- So the website is Owl Purdue, and it's really helpful with English things, like comma usage or writing a sources page in the MLA, APA, Chicago, or any types of styles. Of course Googling whatever you need help understanding couldn't hurt either. That's what Chao does; if there's a problem with syntax, comma usage, or understanding grammar points, Chao likes to use Owl Purdue for fan fics and academic papers. And Chao will be happy to keep giving some points for this blog... so long as this email remains valid, which may expire soon.
YChao- Wait, what?
Chao- Oh, look, Gravity Falls is on!

News for August
Chao- So here's a little newsfeed about what's going on with some fan fics.
Yu-Gi-Oh! news: Got chapter 11 up for Offspring of Heroes. Hope those who have been reading it find it interesting! Where I Belong is getting worked on, too. Dunno when the next chapter will be finished. There is a one shot being worked on, The Vow, and hopefully it'll be done before school starts.
Phineas and Ferb news: Gonna try and re-work with The Value of a Smile and The Mysterious Book. There's also a one shot coming out soon, Ideas from the Heart.
Cats Don't Dance news: Got some inspiration to write a few scenes for up coming one shots and a whole story. Danny is so much fun to work with!
Chao- Since FF.net has allowed users to put up different pictures for fan fics, Chao has decided to put up different artworks. Just look at different fan fics through the avatar.

Made a List!
Chao- (doing a happy dance)
YChao- What are you doing?
Chao- Wha? Chao is just happy to be on a fan fiction list!
YChao- You? On a list?
Chao- Yep!
YChao- For what? Being a lazy author?
Chao- Hey! Some people actually like these fan fics.
YChao- What fan fics? They're just ones of Yugi being tortured.
Chao- Exactly! Anyways, Youngbountygirl of FF.net and dA had made a list of her top 5 YGO fan fics! And Chao is 5!
Link to list: http://youngbountygirl.deviantart.com/art/Top-5-Favorite-Completed-Fan-Fictions-319943608
Chao- It is pretty cool being on a list. And Chao will be on the look out to avoid any mistakes that have been mentioned. Thanks for the feedback, Younbountygirl!

Comic of Strength of Passion
Chao- Back in March Chao wrote a fan fic for Cats Don't Dance, Strength of Passion. There was one reader/reviewer who was so inspired by some one shot that she drew up 13 pages of a comic for the fan fic. DisneySweetHeart of FF.net aka RogersGirlRabbit of dA had done a great job some fantastic artwork based on words (with a few obvious edits). Thought you all would like to take a peek.

All Around Updates and News
Chao- M'kay, so the purpose of this entire blog is to announce status updates for new stores and new chapters. School will be starting Aug 23rd so hopefully a few updates can be completed before then.
YGO news: Offspring of Heroes has bits and pieces of future chapters written. A few future chapters need to be finished up and polished before they can be published. It should go smoothly if everything falls into place. Where I Belong has chapter 14 being written out. The problem with this fic is figuring out where to go after the pranks and party. Don't want to go into pointless drabble, but there may be a few chapters that will be one shot ideas. There are snipits of drama in unattatched documents, so we'll see where they can fall into place. There will also be a few one shots on the way, just to keep things interesting. Chapters and one shots will be up soon... eventually...
Chao-YGO fans, sorry about the wait on all these. Gonna try and watch some YGO episodes so the flow can get started again.
Phineas and Ferb news: The Value of a Smile and The Mysterious Book will go under a few edits. A few parts of future chapters have been written out, but it is difficult to know what's gonna happen next. Gonna aim for at least 10 chapters for The Value of a Smile.
Chao- PnF fans, sorry to those who have been very patient for the next chapters for either/both stories. Fell behind watching any new episodes so hopefully watching them will give some inspiration. Don't spoil what's gonna happen next!
Johnny the Homicidal Maniac news: Have a small idea for a one shot, but unsure of what direction it'll be taken in. Date of publication is currently unknown.
Cats Don't Dance news: Thank you all who have read Strength of Passion and/or The Music in My Heart! A lot of work was placed into those, and even though it was tough it was pretty fun. Watching the movie in the early A.M. is also always fun to do. There is one or two more one shots that are somewhat being written. Date of publication is currently unknown. July was such a wonderful month working with these guys! See you in the movies!
Chao- Boy, there sure are a lot of categories here. Hopefully you all will stick around to read whichever stories caught your attention.
YChao- Why don't you use your blog for something useful? if you just give updates about your story updates, you won't have a lot to say.
Chao- And?
YChao- Write something useful!
Chao- Like what!
YChao- Why not write some grammar points? You always write a whole lot when giving advice for your beta readings. Or at least give some links to grammar websites so those looking at this will actually learn more than reading from you.
Chao- Aren't fan fics enough?
YChao- Nope, plus you're extremely lazy and a terrible speller.
Chao- Yep... It's understandable that everyone has their own way to blog, so if you're reading this and don't have an account but would like to leave you ideas/thoughts/complaints/mindless typing, feel free to drop a PM in the FF.net account.
