Chao- OCs.... Own Characters.... Characters that authors create to go alongside canon characters.
YChao- You've never been fond of them.
Chao- Can't help it. Sometimes, not always, authors give these guys more "screen time" than canon characters. They tend to steal the spotlight from canon characters. Plus, many of them have dumb roles, like being related to the main character or having a character fall in love with them. Sometimes the OC is even just the writer using a different name.
YChao- Maybe some readers like that.
Chao- Other times, though, authors don't know how to work OCs along with canon characters. Anyone else think that some authors leave out essential details to OCs?
Agent Daisy- (shakes head)
Chao- It just seems like authors expect readers to be as familiar with OCs like with canon characters.
YChao- But weren't all canon characters OCs at some point? They do belong to the original authors until they sell their souls to big companies to make their work an anime or movie.
Chao- Exactly. And those authors spend time allowing readers to become familiar with them. Some OCs leave readers confused since novice authors do not know how to write them and allow readers to become familiar with them like with the canon characters.
YChao- And was there a point to this entry?
Chao- The fact the FF.net staff has added OC to the characters slot! It's is hilarious! Now Chao can finally filter fan fics with that!
That only works if the OC is listed as a main character. If people catch onto the fact that readers are filtering out their stories, they'll just stop archiving the OC.
ReplyDeleteChao- Shh! Don't tell 'em that!
